How did you originally get into hairstyling?
I was grooming and training show horses in Utah, so was already familiar with hair. I met a group of hairstylists and fell in love with their creative, charismatic nature and knew I wanted to be a part of their world.
Ammon, can you tell me a bit more about the salon /photo studio concept?
The salon/photo studio concept came from a need that I often came across while doing hair prep for freelance photo shoots. There was often a need to find a salon that would allow us to do hair color prep on as many as 20 models before the photo shoot. This is not an easy thing to find, particularly in busy New York so I thought why not create a space where this need could be facilitated and we would be able to shoot in the same space. On an average day at the Ammon Carver Studio, there is an open busy salon amidst a photo shoot creating a unique, fun vibe.
What or who inspires your hair creations?
I find inspiration from many different things. I travel a lot, not only for work but for leisure as well, and I often find inspiration from the many different cultures I come across and learn about.
